Contemporary software systems exhibit a profound degree of complexity. More responsibility than ever falls on the shoulders of the software architect. The field thrives on wild creativity, yet demands skills in programming, analysis, and fundamental computer science. Talent in this field is scarce and highly rewarded. In a discipline this challenging, a traditional Bachelor's degree is simply not enough. NKU's Master of Science in Computer Science (MSCS) program is an evening and weekend program designed to educate professionals to bring a high level of creativity, skill, knowledge, discipline and judgment to bear on the increasingly demanding problems of software engineering. It seeks to develop virtuosity at all levels of software construction by a combination of
A new graduate certificate in Secure Software Engineering is now available. All coursework taken for this certificate can count toward the Masters degree in computer science.
As you work toward your Masters in Computer Science you are surrounded by practicing software professionals. Most students who are employed full time will take 2 to 3 years to complete the program, enrolling in one or two courses per semester. The courses and workshops along the way have benefits of their own, in addition to the value of the degree at the end. If your background is in a different area of science or engineering, we have workshops to help bring you up to speed in contemporary programming languages and foundational computer science. MSCS courses are taught by professors -- all with PhDs -- who are passionate about teaching. Five of our eleven professors have recent work experience in the software industry, at corporations such as Intel, Microsoft, and BBN. The new NKU College of Informatics provides oppportunities for interaction with graduate students in Business Informatics. NKU is convenient for all commuters, located off the I-275 beltway at I-471, on a hill overlooking the Cincinnati skyline.
